Sustainability
Commitment to sustainabilityProducts designed to last, materials selected with respect for the environment.
Sustainable design Designing responsibly means creating products that stand the test of time, both aesthetically and functionally, while reducing environmental impact at every stage, from material selection through to production. For Kastel, this principle is put into practice: each seating piece is developed through an approach that integrates ergonomics, durability and user comfort, selecting high-quality materials, prioritising recyclable components and choosing finishes that maintain their appearance and performance over time. This is Kastel’s philosophy: furnishing spaces with a focus on the well-being of those who use them.
Manufacturing process During the production process, sustainability is put into practice by reducing the use of raw materials, optimising resources, managing waste with a focus on reuse and recycling, and controlling emissions. Kastel seating is made from high-quality, fully recyclable materials and designed from the outset for low-energy assembly and disassembly.
CAM-GPP
K-GreenDesigning sustainable and durable furniture means combining style, performance and respect for those who use the space. Kastel brings this principle to life in tangible products: verifiable, certified and designed to last.
To participate in Green Public Procurement (GPP) procedures within the public sector, CAM-certified documentation is required. Kastel offers a selection of chairs, armchairs and tables that comply with the technical and environmental requirements of the CAM Furniture certification (minimum environmental criteria - in Italy), supporting specifications and public tenders.
The Common GPP Criteria (CAM) for the supply of interior furniture can be defined as the sum of technical and process requirements that a particular product must possess to be compliant and eligible for purchase according to the directives of the PAN GPP (Green Public Procurement). The Contracting Authority (Public Administration) is obliged to request the Common GPP Criteria (CAM) in relation to all supplies of products.
The Italian reference standard is the DECREE 23 June 2022. Published in the Official Journal n. 184 dtd 08.08.2022 and entered into force on 6th December 2022.
Certifications
Quality, safety and environmental responsibility are measurable values for Kastel.
The company is certified according to ISO 9001 standards for quality management, and a selection of models complies with key European standards, including EN 1335, EN 16139 and the requirements of Legislative Decree 81/2008 concerning workplace health and safety.
Fire performance is another important guarantee: most Kastel products are certified in Class 1 and Class 1IM, standards particularly relevant for contract environments, public spaces, offices, collective areas and projects subject to technical specifications or procurement requirements.
From an environmental perspective, Kastel CAM - Comon GPP Criteria documentation is verified by Bureau Veritas, confirming compliance with the Italian Ministerial Decree of 23 June 2022 for public procurement. FSC® certification, issued by CSQA, an ASI – Assurance Services International accredited body, also confirms the use of wood sourced from responsibly managed forests.
Certifications do not replace a sustainability policy, but make it tangible, documented and verifiable. Kastel approaches them as tools of transparency for designers, contracting authorities, partners and end customers.
